it relates to genetic science, and how the two might be related. CONCEPT OF SELF AND GENETIC SCIENCE The volatile controversy concerning the biotechnology industry and the study of
the human genome is not one that is easily solved. Interestingly enough, no matter whether one is for or against the issue, almost everyone questioned has a strong stance
in his or her opinion. There are very few neutral feelings regarding the topic of human genome study. When perusing several articles on the subject, there are any
number of excellent arguments on each side of the issue; however, many of these arguments are nothing more than scare tactics or ridiculous claims that are not valid in the
scientific field on which this is based. But the real issue for those who question the ethical issues behind biotechnology are those questions that cannot be readily answered. For
instance, how much impact do our genes actually have on us both psychologically and sociologically? How much of us is a product of our genes, and how much is
a product of our environment. Could it not be that if we were to clone or genetically alter humans that we could be toying with the emotions of another
future human being? There is also the question of what type of social stigma would be attached to an individual who is the result of cloning. Perhaps his
or her peers would not consider them valid human beings, or would in some way consider them lesser individuals as we ourselves are. These and many other questions are
not ones that are easily dealt with. There are some other major ethical and health related problems associated with the opportunity to patent the human genome as well. For
