In the hospital or doctors office environment, patients have come to expect cursory treatment as today, in a litigious society that is dominated by insurance companies, the bedside manners of
doctors do not always come through. Yet, there is a difference between care that will enhance the quality of life and care that only provides what is necessary.
Using quality of life as a concept, a student wanting to create a sample case in accordance with information from the book Strategies for
Theory Construction in Nursing, might write something as follows: Concept: Quality of Life Aim of Analysis: Develop an operational definition and
Illustrate the concept Critical Attributes: All cases of quality of life should Involve: 1. An evaluation of current life circumstances (Haas,
1999). 2. Subjective and objective indicators, based on values, should be evident (Haas, 1999). 3. There should be a semblance of happiness, contentment or relief, or something above
