future Apple executives eye, few thought that personal computers would be as popular as they are today. Not only are computers popular, but it seems that they are collectively an
important factor in daily life and especially in business. Few businesses in the postmodern era could survive without them, and while they have become less expensive to purchase and use,
the government has stepped in, in a variety of circumstances to thwart the continuance of the now highly available personal computer. The continuing saga of the Microsoft antitrust lawsuit is
just one thing. It is a well known case to everyone in the country and around the world. Bill Gates created the largest, most successful software company ever, a feat
that made him the "richest person" in the world. Yet, some think that the success achieved by Microsoft was only accomplished due to unsavory tactics which impinged on antitrust laws.
The case is ongoing. In other domains, the Internet is something that has along with the PC, become almost indispensable, and that has further created a niche for government to
explore. Most say that government cannot regulate the Internet and by and large, they cannot exactly, but they can and have been looking into various forms of regulation concerning taxation
and prohibition based on pornography laws. Also, pornographic materials found at the workplace on the web have been construed as sexual harassment, and other areas of regulation include those that
go to health. For example, OSHA has seen fit to set rules regarding things like lighting, computer glare, breaks for employees to prevent repetitive strain injuries and so forth. These
affect employees for the most part but other regulations--or regulations in the works--can conceivably affect all citizens, particularly their pocket books. II. Antitrust Issues
