are traditional viruses and the more recent e-mail viruses. Viruses are not as prevalent as they once were, but occasionally a new one is created. Viruses can be meant as
a harmless prank or can be directed to create major havoc and irreparable damage. TYPES OF VIRUSES Most frequently you are completely unaware
when a computer virus is running on your computer. Viruses can be programmed to perform in various ways - from a harmless prank to the total destruction of your computers
hard drive (Howells, 2002). It is speculated that there are at least 60,000 different known viruses in the world today (Howells, 2002). The groups of entities known as computer
viruses can differ greatly in the type of operating system that they target and the method that they use to replicate themselves (Howells, 2002).
There are various types of electronic infections that can affect your computer. The most commonly known is the virus. A small piece of software that hitches a ride or
piggybacks on other real programs is known as a virus (Brain, 2005). For example, a virus could attach itself to a spreadsheet program Then each time the computer
operator runs the spreadsheet program, the virus also runs and while it is running, the virus can reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or cause other havoc with your computer
