Essay / Research Paper Abstract
8 pages in length. There is no question that the implementation of LAN and WAN technologies has significantly improved the manner by which groups, companies and organizations have been able to complete networking tasks. As it became necessary to improve upon the essential elements offered by LAN performance, WAN was developed as a means by which to overcome all barriers of time and location. With relative ease and considerable investment, organizations are now able to bring their systems up to speed, including those who have historically been held back from upgrading. Indeed, there is no end in sight with regard to computer technologies, and LAN/WAN networking applications represent just the beginning of what is still to come in the new millennium. a means by which to streamline their operations, such significant growth has necessitated the use of LAN in order for the multitude of computers to become interlinked. Unquestionably, it
is entirely feasible for a group, company or organization to employ the use of more than one LAN that allows for networking between and among a vast array of local
systems (Anonymous, 2001). When proximity becomes an issue, a Wide Area Network (WAN) is put to use, "which spans geographical areas over public or private communication links" (Anonymous, 2001).
Employment of this particular network is typically reserved as a means by which to conjoin all the facets of a group or companys system: data, video, voice, as well as
other computer business systems already incorporating a LAN. The primary purpose of a WAN is to connect all applicable communication components in such a manner that the LAN cannot,

As with any computer networking applications, there exist numerous industry standards as a means by which to offer overall product cohesiveness. With LAN and WAN, the cost and quantity
involved in implementing these networks cannot be considered inexpensive or low in volume in order to properly activate the systems; however, the money spent as a means by which to
technologically upgrade an organizations system is considered a sound investment. Myriad groups, businesses and organizations across the globe are taking full advantage of the myriad opportunities provided by LAN
