the like, which can clearly be seen to be hung from wires, are so hilarious. Traditionally, in quality movies, the film industry has used hand-built, miniature models and full-sized
props for most of its special effects (SFX) work. Most people are familiar with the myriad of spacecraft pictured in the Star Wars trilogy, or with the incredible cityscapes
of Bladerunner. These were painstakingly constructed from wood, metal, and Fiberglass. To add to the realism, they were outfitted with plastic model parts and outfitted with tiny lights. (Giambruno
15) The movie industry has long treated the public to views of horrible monsters and fantastic space aliens. In the past, these creatures were either people in foam rubber suits,
or stop-motion models. Stop-motion is when a detailed model is made with articulated joints so that its position can be changed. The animator will then position the model and
take one frame of film. The model is repositioned with the limbs moved slightly and another frame of film is taken. Since there are 24 frames per second of
film, it takes many thousands of frames to make even a few minutes of time in the finished movie. The most famous example of this sort of animation is
the figure of the ape in King Kong, although Jason and the Argonauts stands out as model stop-motion animation. Even puppets have been used in movie production. The most famous
