wide definition, as computer crime can be seen as any crime that uses a computer misuse that leads to a crime being committed. This can range from breach of copyright
and fraud through to pornography and paedophilia crimes. We have seen computer crime go through several stages, just as the technology has
developed, so has the usage and understanding of those who seek to misuse technology for their own means. The first stage was that of discovery, where the potential of the
computer to be used in this manner was first discovered (Wilson, 1997). This soon moved onto a [period of criminalisation, where the theory was put into limited practice (Wilson, 1997).
The third stage was one that was limited in perception there was the demonisation of hackers, and along with this there was an almost complete disgrace for the way in
which internal staff with access to the system can be used (Wilson, 1997). For example, security breaches may be seen to originate inside an organisation from a disgruntled employee more
than 50% of the time (Huczyniski, 1996). The last stage may be seen as censorship, where there has been increased realisation and
commitment to deal with the type of information that is on the internet and computers, such as pornography and paedophilia (Wilson, 1997).
Overall, most of the problems we see relate to sex crimes or fraud and the breach of copyright or intellectual property rights. The problem we have with technology is
not only the technological environment where the crime takes place, but also the legal status of the information on the internet, for example, it can be argued as being either
