is to use systems theory to examine aviation, how might one go about it? What are seven components of that system? How are they interrelated or fragmented? In using the
suggestions noted above, supplied by a student, in addition to the component of location (airport), each may be discussed and defined and then interrelated. Airplanes are one of the most
important components of aviation. After all, everything is focused on the craft. This is the entity that actually flies. The people are a part of working on, designing, and building
the airplane. They are integral to flying the plane and making sure that everything is fine. Just as a baby needs its mother for its every desire and need, the
airplane requisites people to make it fly, in order to provide it with fuel and so forth. The people of course are not all the same as each plays a
different role and has a different level of expertise. Equipment is another aspect of the system. Equipment can help or harm an aircraft. Many disasters have been blamed on equipment
failures and so it plays a vital role in making the airplane fly safely. By and large equipment is valuable. Kinnison (2004) writes: "Once the bugs are worked out
and the equipment settles into its "pattern," the failure rate levels off or rises only slightly over time" (p.10). Many of the items in the equipment category are found
on the plane and they are sometimes a part of the plane. The airplane is also used on the runway or as part of flight attendants repertoire. Finally, another tangible
component of the aviation system is location, or the airport itself. Planes need an airport to call home and the airport facilitates its flight. Without the airport and the lure
