each independent intelligence agency articulate a code of practice to which its members or subscribers are held accountable for their actions. Although each code of practice may be different
in terms of content, in order to ensure its effectiveness and maximum security of sensitive information, it is recommended that in include the following: * knowledge of relevant legislation;
* insist upon the integrity, confidentiality and proper training of all personnel; and * accountability for all actions taken and complete compliance with all procedures outlined within the
code (Code of Practice, 2003). When compiling a code of practice, particularly for any Australian intelligence operation, there should be included at
the beginning a kind of purpose statement that discusses certain key objectives (European Parliament, 1998). As it pertains to the intelligence profession, these objectives might address such processes as
searches (search warrants and consent searches) and acceptable types of surveillance. As defined by the UK Code of Practice as issued under Section 410 of 2002s Proceeds of Crime
