Both the similarities and the differences will be discussed. THE ADOLESCENT FEMALE AS COMPARED TO THE MENOPAUSAL FEMALE The adolescent
female is normally considered to be at an awkward age that lies somewhere between being a child and a woman. It is at this stage that the body begins
to develop and the menses begin, and yet there is still usually some initial confusion with body image as well. Because this is a major life change, that of
a girl whose reproduction system is changing, there are mental changes to make as well. Some adolescents handle this change better than others do, but nonetheless the changes that
are wrought are not always welcome or easy to accept. Almost all the same characteristics can be used in describing the onset of
menopause. This too is an important change in life, and not always one that is welcome. Some women view menopause as becoming less than a woman as their
hormones change and some depression sets in. The fact that they will no longer be able to reproduce is a relief to many women but at the same time
can invoke feelings of inferiority to those who are younger and still of childbearing age. Body image is an issue with both
