Greek pottery is one of those things that illustrates mythological beliefs as well as social customs and the style and evolution of art in pottery itself. The following paper compares
two ancient Greek pieces of pottery. The pieces examined are Mixing Vessel with Mythological Figures (Greek 470-460 B.C.) and Storage Jar with Achilles and Ajax Gaming (Greek 510 B.C.).
Comparison of Greek Art: Getty Villa Museum The Storage Jar with Achilles and Ajax Gaming (Greek 510 B.C.) is made from terra cotta and is attributed to the Leagros Group
as the painter (The Getty). The Mixing Vessel with Mythological Figures (Greek 470-460 B.C.) is obviously from approximately the same time period and is also comprised of terra cotta. In
relationship to size, without actually physically viewing the pieces, the similarity in size is unknown but considering that the storage jar is approximately 18 inches high and the other vessel
is a mixing vessel and would not be small, one can assume the sizes are approximately the same. The scenes on the two pieces of pottery are quite similar
in coloring, red or black glazing process, but in reverse of one another. The Mixing Vessel with Mythological Figures is a red-figure painting for the figures are the lighter of
the colors, whereas the Storage Jar with Achilles and Ajax Gaming is a black figure painting because the figures are in black. Despite the different coloring, or the negative perspective,
however, it is clear that the style of glazing was likely the same, that being that the method of glazing and firing and painting was the same for they are
very similar in coloring, style, and period. The shapes of the vessels are very different for the storage jar is very round
