ancient stories of Gilgamesh and Ulysses in Homers Odyssey are classic tales that allow the reader to glimpse what life was like centuries ago. They are tales that speak of
the greatness of men, the power of leadership, love, and religion. The following paper briefly compares, and ever so briefly contrasts, the two stories and their main characters, Gilgamesh and
Ulysses. Comparison of Gilgamesh and The Odyssey In both stories one can see very similar lifestyles maintained by the primary characters. They are both leaders and while Ulysses
is primarily away from home, trying to return after the Trojan War, they are leaders of their people and thus lead lifestyles (at home) that relatively wealthy and at ease.
But, at the same time they are also two individuals who are engaged in great dangers and adventures and battles throughout the stories and as such they both lead a
life of adventure and danger because of their leadership and masculine roles in their society. In relationship to the leadership of both characters one can well see that Gilgamesh
is a harsh leader. In the very beginning of the story the reader sees that many people, Gilgameshs people, pray and beseech the gods/goddesses to save them from Gilgamesh who
is part god. They plead that something be done for "Gilgamesh does not leave a son to his father....bold, eminent, knowing, and wise...Gilgamesh does not leave a girl to her
