At the time of the 2000 census, unemployment in this geographical area was 1.7 percent. Of the population over the age of 16, there were 1,370
individuals in the labor force (71.1 percent of the population), and 1,333 (69.1 percent of the total population) of those were employed. There were 763 females (71.1 percent) over
the age of 16 included in the labor force, and 69.2 percent of those were employed for an unemployment rate among women of 0.4 percent.
Fully 95 percent of these employed individuals drove to work, either alone (81.7 percent) or in a carpool (14.0) percent. Only 1.6 percent used public transportation; another
2.4 percent worked at home. Most of the population works in business or professional settings, with 53.3 percent in managerial or professional positions
and 22.4 percent in sales and office occupations. Another 12.3 percent worked in services; 7.3 percent worked in production or transportation jobs. The final 7.3 percent worked in
construction. The type of industry most represented was education (35.0 percent), followed by manufacturing (10.0 percent), retail (9.8 percent) and transportation (6.5 percent).
