Senate election, the campaign in Tennessee gained national attention in part because Senate majority leader Bill Frist was not seeking reelection, in part because of the nature of the campaign.
It was an expensive one as both Republican candidate Bob Corker and Democrat candidate Harold Ford Jr. inundated local television and radio stations with campaign advertising, making themselves and
their images ubiquitous. "Vote for me" was the primary message of each candidate, but the closer election day came the nastier the messages
became. The most offensive of all of the broadcast advertisements came from the two national committees rather than the candidates themselves, leading the candidates to make new spots in
effect saying "Enough already..." How are voters to decide between candidates when their campaign managers and national political committees determined to cloud the
issues at hand? We seek out facts and compare them. Advertising Kaplan, Park and Ridout (2006) note that a common recent trend
has been toward convergence in candidate television advertising. Certainly the campaigns of Corker and Ford in Tennessee bear that out. Neither candidate appeared to differ much from the
other on the real issues. Both promoted remaining in Iraq for the duration; both maintained that "something" has to be done about healthcare access and affordability. Both claimed
to be concerned about education and the economy. So where was a difference between them? That
was left for the voters to decide, with the help of some local television stations deconstructing the negative claims of each candidates advertising. Corkers campaign complained of Fords record
