Bearing that in mind the following paper examines the general lifestyle of Americans as it compares with the general lifestyle of an Australian. The information comes from an American who is living in Australia and an Australian who is living in the United States. Through examining their perceptions we gain an understanding of how the two lifestyles are different. The Australian in America This particular individual, Arwon, is a teenager who is residing in the United States because his father is in the Australian military and has been brought to the United States for some military duty. As such this 16-17 year-old presents the reader with many interesting examinations of the cultural differences. This individual pays attention to many different details when looking at the lifestyle and culture of Americans. Firstly we note that Arwon states, "Its seemingly a metric crapload harder, and a metric crapload more important to get into college here in the US, as well as being a hell of a lot more expensive. Its also a lot more difficult to get ahead in life without a college degree in the US, because of the value placed on a college education by American society." This indicates that the educational institutions of Australia are different, and that the life after college is different in that most Australians do not need to have a college education. Arwon also indicates that a great deal more focus on education and achieving education is seen in Australia than in the United States, where students are expected to learn a great deal in college, not high school.
