the perspectives of optimism or pessimism. The optimist will see the glass as half full, meaning there is something of substance in the glass, which is positive. The pessimist will see the glass as half empty meaning that half of what they had is gone. They are looking at the negative reality of the glass and life. Most people are well aware of the fact that optimism is the better way to address life and to see opportunities and difficulties. Looking at life optimistically is far more beneficial than looking at life pessimistically. The following paper examines the two points of view, comparing and contrasting the two, with the focus on how thinking optimistically is far more beneficial than thinking pessimistically. Comparison/Contrast: Optimism and Pessimism Being optimistic or pessimistic both create a perspective that can result in either positive or negative outcomes. As such they share results in common as it is connected to thought. For example, a pessimist may go to a party and expect to meet no one, expect to have a bad time, and thus experience just that, no matter what really happens, for they are looking at it negatively. An optimist would go to the same party and expect to have fun and talk to people. They are likely to have a good time because they wanted to have a good time, and likely will have fun talking to people because they expected to do that. In both ways the people get what they expected because that is what they expected. What makes the results for the pessimist and the optimist different are how they approach whatever it is they are planning or envisioning.
