this piece in order to reach readers and impart upon them the reality of what a lynching really was about. To see how this was accomplished, we will examine
various components of the poem in order to assess how each works to support the main objective of the work. Specifically, we will assess the role of theme, style,
setting, and narrative structure. The theme of this poem is that of a lynching. However, the word itself does not illuminate
the horrific reality of what actually occurs at a lynching. This poem therefore, serves to inform readers of the actual horrors of a lynching. While we all tend
to know what a lynching is generally, this author highlights the specifics of just what a horrible event a lynching actually is.
