them as a result will affect not only themselves but also those around them. Hamlet and Ralph must choose their fateful paths carefully, for each knows once they embark
on them, there can be no turning back. The strengths and weaknesses each possesses will determine whether or not they will ultimately achieve success or failure. Prince Hamlet of
Denmark was a twenty-something college student at the University of Wittenberg. He had long idolized his father, King Hamlet, and when he received the news that the monarch had
been murdered, the young man was inconsolable. If that was not traumatic enough, barely three months after the slaying, Hamlets mother, Queen Gertrude, married her husbands brother, Claudius, which
enabled him to realize his lifelong dream of occupying the Danish throne. Then, Hamlet has a supernatural experience that convinces him he has seen his fathers ghost. During
this encounter, whether real or imagined, Hamlet is persuaded to expose Claudius as his fathers killer. He is urged to, "Revenge his foul and most unnatural murther" (I.v.29).
Hamlet will need all of his inner resources to successfully meet this crisis, for the consequences will be deadly. Ralph is among a group of adolescent English boys who
are the lone survivors of a devastating plane crash. They find themselves marooned on a primitive island miles away from their cherished civilization. Ralph immediately recognizes that he
