Mary Ignatius Explains it ALL, respectively, although in strikingly different ways stylistically. Each of these authors bases their story upon satire and comedy, but each has a very different
way of writing which develops the themes of these stories quite differently in each case. Clearly, in the work of
Moliere, the depiction of Tartuffe is nothing short of brilliant. This author was able to characterize this character so sublimely and so masterfully that one can easily see how
Orgon could have been deceived by such a person (Tartuffe - A History of the Play by Moliere). Moliere accomplishes this feat without resorting to obvious analysis or apparent
revelations. Instead, he allows the self-revelations of Tartuffe and Orgon to slowly and subtly expose these characteristics. Tartuffe is
a character who is unable to pass close inspection, and so interestingly it is through his dialogues with the other characters that we learn of his deceptions (Tartuffe - A
History of the Play by Moliere). We see him hiding aspects of himself and/or covering up his true self and in this way come to know him. It
is so powerful to witness how Moliere never overtly describes the religious hypocrisy at hand, but instead shows the fervor with which Tartuffe attacks all things, thus extending to matters
of religion as well (Tartuffe - A History of the Play by Moliere). The play takes place in Versailles, at
