Brave New World and Henry V, from Shakespeares Henry V, provide the perfect foil to one another in regards to the issue of virtue.
Brave New World takes place in the twenty-sixth century, and therefore this futuristic novel presents some poignant themes regarding virtue and justness. At first glance, the
character of John may not be considered virtuous based upon his final act - that of taking his own life. And yet, upon closer inspection of the details surrounding
this event, it becomes apparent that not only is it evident why John does as he does, but it also is apparent that his indeed virtuous.
In a world where children are manufactured as opposed to being born the "traditional" way, John is one of a very small percentage that managed
to be born traditionally despite advanced birth control technologies. For this reason, his mother leaves his father and escapes with John to the world of the savages. They
are eventually reintroduced to the "regular" world and everyone finds out that John was born of Linda (his mother) and they become nothing short of a spectacle. Adding to
the trauma and pain is the eventual death of Linda, who cannot comfortably exist in either world. John himself is unable
to escape the torment of his existence. He begs to be exiled but his requests are denied in favor of conducting more experiments on him. Furthermore, he remains
