the business. Asda is a UK supermarket, the second largest supermarket in the UK, originally it was an independent company, but since 1999 it has been a subsidiary of
the US firm Wal-Mart (The Food Institute Report, 2008). Asda is a commercial enterprise which has the aim of creating profit for its parent company by satisfying consumer needs and
selling them a wide range of products. To do this the average retail outlet sells 30,000 product ranges, of these about 60% are food items (The Food Institute Report, 2008).
The company seeks to compete with a differentiation offering value prices and choice, adopting an aggressive strategy to compete with the number one supermarket Tesco. In comparison Help the
Aged is a charity which has the core aim of helping older people, researching needs, providing services and raising funds in order to provide those services. Just as Asda is
a part of an international organisation so is Help the Aged as this is an international charity. One of the ways that Help the Aged raises fund to support the
services it offers is through sales, there are high street shops which sell a rang of items which are donated, such as second hand clothes, toys and household items. There
are also sales of items or services that serve a duel purpose; helping the aged with services as well as raising funds, this includes the financial services arm which sells
