Both Microsofts Word 7.0 (also referred to as Word 97) and Corels WordPerfect 7 offer advanced spell checking and grammar tools, which include "correct-as-you-type" features and grammatical sentence
clean-up. WordPerfect has added the capability of changing margins and columns directly on the page. Word has also upgraded its column capabilities by adding the capability of drawing
a table with any size cell by way of a table drawing tool. As part of the WordPerfect program, Corel Barista publishes formatted
documents in Java. Microsoft does this through a suite called Microsoft Outlook in either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Java. Both programs allow for interconnectivity to the internet directly
from the word processing screen. Documents can be converted to HTML or vice versa--HTML documents brought down from the internet can be formatted in the word processing programs.
The new versions of both programs offer web publishing capabilities that also go in both directions, which means that anything brought off
a web page can be automatically formatted to a particular style. Of course, WordPerfect still operates on the "document" format and Word operates on the "paragraph" format, so there
is a slight difference in the way formatting is manipulated in both programs. However, WordPerfect has added a one-spot feature for accessing formatting styles.
Microsoft and Corel each have additional suites, the most common of which are a desktop suite that allows the user to manage a group of files by project.
