The first and very apparent change is the use of the ribbon. The traditional menu system, that has been a feature of the Office suite for many years has gone,
with a ribbon, which Microsoft have designed to simplify accessing the different functions, the ribbon has tabs which different functions grouped under each tab (Microsoft, 2010). There is some
increased functionality that may be useful for the creation of documents, in the new version there is support for pdf files as well as XML paper specification (XPS), this was
not available in Office 2003 (Microsoft, 2010). The enhancement to help with appearances is also aided with the preview function, where previews for changes, such as font changes and other
text formatting changes may be previewed before changes are made. Office 2007 has a large number of auto formatting options, such as with the bibliography formatting as well as more
automation on choices such as inserting tables of contents. The document map has been changed to a navigation pane facilitates easier review of documents and the ability to reorganize them
with a click and drag process. There is an enhanced provision of office themes, and SmartArt increases the potential for the use of graphics, but these are features which are
