encyclopedias focuses on how each represents the topic of the Nile River, comparing and contrasting the features of these articles according to Katzs criteria. Katz (2002) offers definitive criteria
that can be applied to evaluating online references. According to Katz, online and print media should be evaluated according to authority, purpose, scope, relevance, target audience, reliability, update frequency and
special features (2002). Additionally, Katz (2002) emphasizes that, in regards to electronic sources, navigability, design, speed and access are also important. Basically, all of the rules for evaluation that apply
to print media also apply to online references. However, Katz points out that the area of authority is problematic for online encyclopedias because "neither the publisher nor the authors authority
is visible" (2002, p. 222). The user should, therefore, be aware of certain features, such as whether or not the advertising at the site indicates a bias and whether or
not factual data is supported by citation. The Americana article on the Nile River begins with a thumbnail-size map of the Nile River and the surrounding region that enlarges
when the user clicks on it. The text begins with a general geographical description of the river, and the focus of the article remains largely with geographic, describing various features
of the Nile and listing the countries through which the river flows. There are numerous subheadings that help the user locate areas of interest. Nevertheless, the scope of this
article is rather limited as it primarily offers the reader basic facts about Nile geography, with a little bit on Egyptian history and the history of exploration of the Nile
