is a sacred text that explores the "conflict between social and personal values and needs" (Lindtner 90). It is part of the sixth book of the great ancient Indian
epic, the Mahabharata, which is the longest book in the history of humanity. The main theme of this text is role that dharma plays in human affairs. Dharma connotes the
cosmic order that reigns everywhere. As this implies, dharma is much broader than ethics or morals-ethics and morals derive from dharma, and not the other way around. The Gita offers
describes how a battle is about to ensue. Two men, Arjuna and Krsna are arguing about the morality of killing other men. Arjuna argues, " What joy is left...after we
have killed...Nothing but guilt will accrue to us if we kill these assassins! ...for how can we be happy when we have killed family " (Bhagavad Gita 27). However, at
the end of the Gita, Arjuna says "The delusion is gone...by your grace I have recovered my wits. Here I stand with no more doubts. I shall do as you
say" (Bhagavad Gita 79). As this indicates, the Hindu belief system places an extreme value on social order. It is a warriors dharma to fight, so he should fight. Similar
