adherent to this faith entry into Heaven. Both faiths are built on the traditions of Judaism and regard the miracles performed by the faiths founder as evidential of his divine
mission. Christianity originated in Palestine and is based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, whom Christians believe is the prophesized messiah of the Jewish faith. The
central tenet of Christianity is that God sent Jesus, his son, to redeem the sins of the world through the sacrifice of his perfect life. Jesus preached a message of
love and brotherhood, which emphasized treating ones neighbor with the same courtesy and consideration. His ministry is considered substantiated as divine by the numerous miracles that Jesus performed. A
great schism occurred in the Christian Church when the Eastern Orthodox branch of the church split from the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy (Galli, 1997). Another major schism occurred in the
sixteenth century when Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk, nailed 95 complaints against the Roman Catholic Church on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany. This marked the beginning of the Protestant
Reformation (Sweeney, 2000). These divisions persist to this day and the three major divisions of Christianity remain Protestant, which includes a variety of denominations; Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox.
