Sydney it is 290 miles southwest of Brisbane, located on national Route 15 the area is a two-hour drive from the sea (ADC, 2010). The area has geographical locations of
interest, including a number of world heritage national parks, including the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, and New England National Park (ADC, 2010). The area has a relatively high altitude,
the lowest point is 970 meters above sea level, which gives it a relatively mild climate and only short winters (ADC, 2010). The hottest month is January, with an average
high tempreture of 26?C and the coldest month being July, with an average high of only 12.1?C (ADC, 2010). Unusually for many Australian areas, the four seasons are distinct, which
is why it has been given the moniker of New England (ADC, 2010). The town itself was founded in 1849, and in 2006, according to census, had a population
of 19,485 people (ADC, 2010; ABS, 2010). The demographic profile indicates a slight bias towards females, which make up 52.8% of the population compared to males making up 47.2% of
the population. Of this population 1,216, which equates to 6.2% of the population, are indigenous peoples, made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (ABS, 2010). This is notable as
it is higher than the average of the country as a whole, which is 2.3% of the population. The average (median), age of the population is 32 years, with a
