during this period, but also it suggests how the people of this period mourned their loved ones, which establishes a connection with the present day viewer. First of all,
looking at a marble grave stele of a youth and a little girl c.530 B.C., the first thing that strikes the modern viewer is the majesty of the piece. The
mythical creature atop the column and the size of the work suggests that the event that the work commemorates is of supreme significance. (The student researching this topic can view
