is not as well-known but is equally effective. This paper compares and contrasts the two. Discussion The best thing to do is probably to summarize the two very briefly. In
"A Rose for Emily," we come to realize that Emily Grierson, who has just died, has been sleeping next to the corpse of the man she was supposed to marry
years earlier; and that she murdered him. In "The Story of an Hour," Louise Mallard learns that her husband has been killed in a train wreck. She is sorry, but
she also feels free for the first time in her life. When he arrives home safely, his death having been reported mistakenly, she has a heart attack and dies. The

husband has been killed, everyones first instinct is to protect her, because they dont know how she will react to the news and they are concerned that the shock of
Brently Mallards accidental death will also cause her to die. In reality, its the shock of his survival that kills her. Both of these women are mysterious to a degree.
