words or portion of words as a way of clarifying key plot points in his dramas. That is why his plays, though taut and intense when an entire scene
of interrupted dialogue exchanges is presented on the stage, are difficult to translate to the predominantly visual medium of film, where action oftentimes speak louder than words. Such is
the case of Mamets 1982 Pulitzer-prize winning play, Glengarry Glen Ross, believed to be an updated version of Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman, set in the cutthroat world of
bogus Chicago real estate. Here, smarmy salesmen predators prey upon innocent people who respond to junk mail or print advertisements that promise prizes for the purchase of worthless property.
To the salesman, these people become "leads," or instruments of success. Only the one who closes the deal, or gets the lead to write a check and to
sign on the dotted line, is in the patriarchal environment of Premier Properties, can truly define himself as a "real man."
The play is divided into two acts, containing three scenes in the first and two scenes in the second. It centers on the trials and tribulations of three struggling
