look at the American company AOL Time Warner. This is a very high profile company, quoted on the stock exchange, and the subject of recent attention due to the acquisition
of Time Warner by AOL. The company now consists of a collection of companies. In addition to the names of CompuServe and Netscape which were added to the AOL corporate
banner, Time Warner brought a range of services. Now the range of services include AOL Time Warner Interactive Video, Turn Broadcasting and Home Box Office which are networks, in publishing
there is the AOL Time Warner Book Group and Time Inc., in filmed entertainment there is Warner Bros and New Line Cinema, for Music there is the Warner Music Group,
and for Cable systems there is Time Warner Cable (AOL Time Warner, 2002). In order to understand this wide and diverse business we first need to consider the origins
of the company. AOL was founded in the early 1980s under a different name, that of Control Video Corp (Alsop, 1997). The
aim of the company at this time was to be an online company that specialised in the provision of online gaming (Alsop, 1997). This was the time when the Commodore
64 was seen as advanced, but this company did not succeed, and then faced a reorganisation. Now the company became Quantum Computer Services and still provided online service, but this
