village to raise a child. Similarly, it can be said that it takes a village, that is, a community, to provide young people with the experiences and interaction that instills
them a sense of civic and personal responsibility. There is a tendency in modern society to become disconnected, not only from each other, but also from our communities, which leads
to people feeling more and more alienated, which causes a diminished sense of responsibility, not only for themselves, but also in regards to others (Burnett and Spelman, 2011). Projects
that involve young people in community service address this problem. Community service provides benefits for all stakeholders, as it not only benefits young volunteers by changing their world views and
sense of self-efficacy, but it also benefits their communities by addressing its needs, making their local world a better place. An examination of several recent research studies on this topic
shows that young peoples involvement in community service provides benefits to all involved. The Advance program, was instituted as a school-based program by the Victorian Government Office for Youth
in partnership with school and community organizations provides an example of a beneficial and effective community service program (Broadbent and Papadopoulos, 2010). The study conducted by Broadbent and Papadopoulos describes
