and have the other be receptive. Jim may ask his secretary for a report, but instead of ordering the report on his desk at a certain time, he may ask
if is feasible for a report to be created by a certain time. If not, the pair would strategize so that the report can be created in an appropriate time
frame. Here, both parties are receptive. This is an example of good communication practice. If Jim ordered her to create the report and there was not enough time, she might
have agreed but would get it in late, or be very upset because she realizes that there is not enough time. This would create tension in the workplace, particularly if
Jim held an authoritarian attitude. Yet, with good communication skills, any problems are taken care of immediately with the first conversation. One can see that the positive outcome might be
a compromise on the time, including an additional member of the team to help create the report, or delegating other duties so that the secretary has time to type the
report. When honesty and good communication practice is a part of the picture, the workplace runs smoothly. An example of poor communication, which might cost a company time and money
is if there are many intricate power plays that exist in a certain office. In a real estate office, for instance, sales people work on commission. If a new lead
