two processes. An opinion is given as to this imaginary scenario. THE COMMUNICATION SCENARIO Considering the scenario presented on President Gerald Ford and the communications problems to analyze
this scenario, the student can easily see that the analysis can arguably be defined as the difference between information and knowledge. In communication the semiotic school is more interested
in the actual knowledge that takes place in communication while the process school considers the information side of communication. Therefore these two differences will be analyzed and considered as
to their advantages and disadvantages that the student can then use in writing his or her paper. PRESIDENT FORDS DILEMMA Gerald Ford decided to use a tactic within the
United States of communication with the public. He started by creating buttons reading Whip Inflation Now, and distributed brochures urging Americans to get with the program and how to
get with the program of whipping inflation. The problem herein is that Gerald Ford was using the process method of communication, which is giving the American Public information.
His program was unfortunately a failure and the few who chose to wear the buttons wore them upside down to imply NIM or No Immediate Miracles This is an understandable
error when using process communication. Process communication gives the public information but does not give them knowledge. There is, arguably, a big difference between the two. The
public could look at the buttons and read the brochure and understand the information that there was a problem in the United States that was one of inflation. But
it did not impart to the public the actual knowledge of inflation. This is what a semiotician theorist would have done using that theory of communication. IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE
