often speculated that students will often learn as much from their peers as from their tutors. However, in reality there is a different type of learning taking place, with peers
there is the ability to catch up with missed information and also the ability to digest and assimilate the information for later application with a higher chance of discussion to
aid with this assimilation. By looking at a classroom with at least 8 students there is the ability to examine the communication and pattern of relationships in that classroom.
If we look at the patterns seen in the way communications take place there are different patterns with the different students and the way they respond to the different teaching
styles. We can look at how the communications may be best received as well as the communications with teachers and other students. There is a general style of communication
and attention that is reflected in the body language and the words and actions of the students. Where subjects are interesting and engaging they are more attentive, more alert and
more likely to join in. Even those with a low confidence level will show higher levels of interest where they are engaged. However, this is not simply a matter if
a subject that interests the student making a different; it is also in the way it is presented and the characteristics of the student. The reaction of the students
tend to reflect the learning style and the way in which their interest is stimulated. To consider this we can look at the different learning styles and their reactions and
communications. In the 1950s Steven Coreys under took "action research", it was this research that has formed the basis of the Learning Style Inventory (Corey, 1954, quoted in Bell, 1998).
