process, inasmuch as implementation is often met with various levels of acceptance and/or rejection from individual workforce members. It has long been said
the United States of America is a vast melting pot of various races, religions and heritages that make it one of the most culturally diverse populations in the world.
This multicultural blending has been credited with bringing societies closer together and allowing people to understand and accept lifestyles other than their own. However, this accepting attitude is under
great pressure; while America may still house the greatest variety of peoples, it is no longer an educational or cultural melting pot - a fact many groups and individuals alike
are trying hard to change, not the least of which includes Americas work environment. Diversity issues within the workplace include how African-Americans and
other ethnic minorities often experience a sense of inadequacy when placed within socially restrictive circumstances, such as those indicative of stereotype vulnerability, thereby significantly hampering their ability to work beyond
the psychological hindrance toward, for example, promotions and raises. What resides at the crux of stereotype vulnerability is the manner by which ethnic populations perceive themselves as being subordinate
to their white counterparts. This perceived image in the workplace, where individuals are forced to perform at a certain level expectant to their social status, punctuates this skewed perception.
