That the Darfur Region of Sudan has witnessed massive bloodshed, displacement, and loss of life in the last two years is not
a surprise to anyone that watches the news or makes even the slightest bit of effort to keep up on world affairs. Neither should it be a surprise that
similar loss of life is occurring in the once stable Cote DIvoire where several coups and the ravages of civil war has overcome the country. These crises has been
covered in print publications ranging from The Washington Times to the San Francisco Chronicle. They been the subject of considerable electronic media attention as well. The NPR alone
has had several segments devoted solely to the Darfur crisis and the Cote DIvoire crisis as well. Key politicians and other public figures have appeared before the media and
before Congress alike discussing the problems that continue to unfold in these regions. Despite the high profile publicity, however, some individuals remain blinded to the atrocities that are occurring
in these regions. Although when confronted some will attempt to justify their lack of awareness of such a critical international situation, there is in fact no valid justification.
Despite the fault of the typical student in not staying abreast of their world, there are several conflicting factors that are thrown
their way. In particular, it must be acknowledged that media reports of conflicts such as those noted above vary considerably in the detail that they provide. This variation
