civilization would certainly perish. Such was the need for money, which scholars attest to have primarily been devised and utilized in both Mesopotamia and Egypt. During this period,
precious metals were employed for the exchange of currency, used for everything essential a growing and thriving community could attain. Silver was the precious metal of choice for Mesopotamia,
although precious metals of all sorts were known to have been put to use, as well. These metals were particularly evident as it has been discovered that this was
a time the Mesopotamians attempted to standardize weights and other measure. As silver remained the "main commodity" (Wasilewska 222) in determining the exchange rate for other monetary replacements, as
well as corroborating the price of commodities and services, Egypt was quite partial to gold, which was "more common than dust" (Wasilewska 222), of which King Tushratta of Mitanni commented
on the abundance of such a worthwhile precious metal. "Theres just no way to get around it. Silver in Mesopotamia functions like our money today. Its a
means of exchange. People use it for a storage of wealth, and they use it for defining value" (Pringle 52). This was not to say, however, that gold and
