is reported to have made an unprecedented commentary and reiterated a new willingness to negotiate . While that is the case, the article reports that the nation also warned
that economic sanctions would lead to war. The North Korean statement issued claims that they are ready for dialog and confrontation. This seems to imply that the nation can go
either way in terms of the problem of nuclear weapons. It further warned of both consequences of sanctions if North Korea would begin to produce nuclear weapons. The
statement also claimed that the country would take self-defensive measures. The gist of the article indicates that while North Korea is ready and willing to negotiate, it is not
averse to military action. In other words, it will be ready to fight if that becomes necessary. The U.S. was called on its preemptive strike against Iraq in the
article. This brings up many questions as to whether or not a country has a right to defend itself if it is seemingly on the offense. One interesting and
definitive point did emanate from the article which is that "North Korea said flatly that it would abandon its nuclear weapons program in exchange for guarantees of its security"
(French, 2003, p.PG). In the article it was reported that Yoon claimed that the issues do not end with the nuclear issue. This clearly suggests that there are more problems
aside form nuclear weapons. However, the main topic of the article is related to nuclear weapons. Although the article appears to be fair in its reporting, it is also true
that the author seems to paint North Korea in a good light and make the U.S. out to be rather arrogant in its stance. Although that may be the case,
