a pleasure I owe to the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, Charles M. Schulz. Sadly, Charles is no longer with us, but his spirit lives on in the form
of his beloved characters. In order to pay fair tribute to this family man whose wife Jeannie and five children had the pleasure of his love for many years, it
pays to look at his individual creations which were just as big a part of him as any flesh and blood human being. Charlie Brown was of course the
star of every Peanuts comic strip or show. So much can be said about this little guy, a character based on a true friend of the authors but has come
to be known as the little man in an oversized T-shirt that has a squiggly line. Charlie Brown is the spirit within us that is self-conscious but honest. Most everyone
can identify with Charlie Brown as he muddles through life wondering whether he will succeed, dealing with disappointments, not hearing adults as they sound like jabber and just being a
friend to all the other Peanuts characters who affectionately call him blockhead. In knowing Charles, one can see a piece of him inside Charlie Brown, the protagonist and the authors
namesake who keeps going no matter what. At the end of his life, Charles battled not only a heart condition, but cancer and while Charles persisted and drew his comic
strip through it all, one gets a sense that he had a bit of Charlie Brown inside of him. The Charles that I knew was very brave, very kind, very
human. Charles was a friend of mine and I deeply miss him, but his love lives on through for example the little red haired girl which again was based
