digital network programming as well as broadband services. This has made the company the largest provider of Video services in the US (Comcast, 2007). This is a position gained with
a history of the adoption of innovation and good leadership. The leadership may be seen as undertaking a high level of strategic decision and leading from the top, by looking
at the background of the company there is a context against which the different leadership and managerial roles can be considered. The paper starts with this background and will then
look at management roles. The company, at the time called American Cable Systems, was founded in 1963 in Tupelo by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron and Julian A. Brodsky
and the sale of 1,200 cable subscriber systems (Comcast, 2007). It was only in 1969 that the name Comcast was adopted and the success is indicated with the company becoming
a public company quoted in the NASDAQ in 1972 (Comcast, 2007). By 1986 the company had achieved a customer base 1.2 million and there was also some related diversification as
the company also made an investment in the new shopping channel QVC (Comcast, 2007). The company has also grown with the use of acquisition, in 1988 the company became the
fifth largest cable supplier after acquiring a 50% interest in Storer (Comcast, 2007). Communications Inc. (Comcast, 2007). Acquisition continued in 1994 when there was the acquisition of Macleans Hunters
