the largest cable operator in America, has agreed to buy the major television network NBC Universal from the General Electric Company. The deal, which was finalized in December 2009, is
reported to be worth a little more than $30 billion. After nearly nine months of negotiations, the agreement will give Comcast 51 percent ownership of NBC Universal with G.E. getting
the other 49 percent. There are other parties involved in the deal, but all ownership rights will go to G.E. and Comcast. Both parties seem to be in agreement over
the deal and chief executives from both corporations are looking forward to getting things underway. However, reports suggest that the deal could take anywhere from 18 months to two years
as it goes through regulatory rules and guidelines. Nevertheless, both parties signed standstill agreements to prevent other bidders such as Time Warner and Rupert Murdoch from making offers on the
