to gain additional information on how to create beneficial impacts on youth. The purpose of this research is to provide insight into how BSA 504 can address the goal of promoting leadership. This goal will ideally be accomplished by instilling leadership qualities in scouts within a framework of sponsored low-cost trips for families that provide opportunities family members to bond in the outdoors, away from passive entertainments, such as television and computers, creating the experiences required for leadership development. Critique and Review of Troop 504s Interventions The only activity described on BSA Troop 504s website was that was held outdoors was the Haunted Harvest Fest held on October 20, 2012, which was designed as a cub scout activity. Held at Camp Lavigne, and advertised as a family activity, the activities include the opportunity for cub scouts to participate in BB rifle practice or archery on fully supervised ranches, build a Haunted Craft, visit the Haunted Wise Lodge, and participate in a "Bouldering" outing, a Costume Context and an "Awesome" Hayride ("Columbia," 2012). According to an online scouting website, "bouldering" pertains to the scout climbing on "boulders or other steep faces without going more than a few feet off the ground, protected by spotters" ("Age-appropriate," 2011). The homepage of Troop #504 is bland, uninspiring and sterile. It features a rather small color photo of the building where the council is located, but, otherwise, the page is characterized by black-and-white type. A list of links is provided on the left-hand side of the page and this list does not include a mission statement or the word "leadership."
