Essay / Research Paper Abstract
8 pages in length. The fundamental components inherent to cognitive science revolve around humans and their capacity for knowledge and learning. While this is a simple enough description of an otherwise complex concept, it serves to provide the conduit between man's intelligence and his capability for transferring that aptitude to nonhuman entities. The extent to which cognitive science affords an intrinsic connection with the future development of humanity as a species is both grand and far-reaching; that the coupling of cognitive science and information technology is intrinsic in nature speaks to the logical step currently realized whereby man and machine are extensions of each other. the conduit between mans intelligence and his capability for transferring that aptitude to nonhuman entities. The extent to which cognitive science affords an intrinsic connection with the future development
of humanity as a species is both grand and far-reaching; that the coupling of cognitive science and information technology is intrinsic in nature speaks to the logical step currently realized
whereby man and machine are extensions of each other. The symbiotic relationship man has built with machines is one that has taken a
tremendous amount of time to develop; from the time animals were used to help plow the fields to using calculators in twentieth-century math class, man has always maintained control over
what, when, where, why and how his machines operated. As Brooks (2002) points out, "people were still required to provide intelligence in environments that were not completely structured for
machines" (p. 8). In todays technologically advanced society, however, that affiliation between man and machine has slowly but surely reached a point where machines are quickly equalizing in light
of the tremendous strides of information technology. Many believe, in fact, the day will soon come when machines have been given the ability to outreason and outlearn their human
counterparts, leaving humanity open to an entirely unknown reality if that is ever to happen. How mankind uses his infinite wisdom, ability to
learn and progress his species has long been a determinant of how advanced human beings have become throughout the ages. Fire established man as an inventor but perhaps more
importantly, it solidified his existence upon this earth; each invention or discovery since that time has helped to perpetuate that survival, as well. Now, at the dawn of the
