engineer but only degree is in business management. He avoids as many assignments as he can and pushes work onto coworkers. Does not admit he cannot do the work. He
leaves early every day and takes vacations without informing the manager and always has reasonable excuse for his actions. He does not work effectively with the team and never helps
anyone else. He takes credit for work actually done by others. Discussion The only way this employee will change is through a progressive discipline program established by the
manager. This is a process that is intended to help an employee understand what is expected and to give the employee an opportunity to improve their performance. It is progressive
in that the steps become more and more formal. The steps in progressive discipline are: to counsel the employee about their performance and determine if the employee understands what
is required of him. This session is also intended to determine what issues may be contributing to his unsatisfactory performance. Step two is to verbally reprimand the employee for poor
performance. Step three is to prepare a written warning for the employees file. If performance does not improve after this, the employee might be suspended for work, each time the
suspension is for more days. If the employee refuses to improve, he is fired. It should be noted, however, that lying about ones credentials is cause for dismissal in most
