Other areas of development are incorporated into each of these core areas. For example, memory development is part of cognitive development as is perceptual development and language development. Motor development
is part of biological development but motor development also involves a type of memory. As Schneider (2004) suggested we remember a sequence of motor or muscle actions in order to
perform a task. Cognitive development has a direct impact on perceptual development, language development and memory development. Empson (2003) points this out when she comments that often a delay in
cognitive development is not observed in an infant until that child should normally be developing language skills. There are a number of reasons language may be delayed but it is
the one area that indicates there is something wrong (Empson, 2003). There does not seem to be a strong relationship between the different areas of development. For instance, a child
with a delay in physical or biological development would not necessarily experience delay in cognitive development (Empson, 2003). A number of educational programs have been used to improve childrens conceptual
learning. One of those programs is the project-based curricula. Aral and colleagues (2010) demonstrated that when project-based curricula is used, six-year-olds are more able to gain conceptual knowledge. These kinds
of studies demonstrate the need for instruction in learning basic concepts during the early years. The investigations related to memory development have been important in determining cognitive development. In fact,
it is so important that it is the most-studied topic in cognitive development (Schneider, 2004). Memory development, which has been studied for more than 100 years, is a very
complex process and involves short-term memory and long-term memory. Schneider (2004) reports that the concept of memory is more understandable if it is compared to a computer. The hardware
