Introduction The concept of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is really not new. It seems that it has been applied to Vietnam quite frequently, and the condition is something that is discussed in the mainstream in general today. In fact, while it has not be studied extensively, September 11th did prompt attention from both the public and the professional community (Grinage, 2003). Also, the soldiers from Iraq bring the problem home again. About 20% (Stecker, Fortney, Hamilton & Ajzen, 2007, p.1358) of returning soldiers from Iraq suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As a result, more diagnoses have been made (Grinage, 2003). It is now something that is also associated with trauma stemming from childhood sexual abuse. In fact, PTSD may be diagnosed in a variety of contexts. With more attention on PTSD, treatment options are explored. To a large extent, various treatments are employed for PTSD, and sometimes in unison, but CBT has been a favored treatment amongst some psychologists and psychiatrists. Why?
