Virtually all sugar-focused companies are facing a changing industry and consumer market that challenges nearly all of their primary and related businesses. As obesity rates climb in the very
countries where Cadbury Schweppes and its competitors have greatest shares, sales decline and consumers search for acceptable substitute products. With shrinking profits from what have been standard operations, the
entire industry is obliged to find other means of continuing consistent levels of net income, even as the revenues on which they are based decline. Cadbury Schweppes is in
such a situation at present. CEO Todd Stitzer has observed, "Despite our size, we remain cost-disadvantaged and too complex from a supply chain and commercial standpoint" (Pagnamenta). Many

(A04). His Quaker heritage prevented him from entering military service or gaining a university degree, so he opened a grocery at the age of 22, in 1823. Chocolate
was prohibitively expensive because of high import tariffs on cocoa beans, and only the truly wealthy could afford to buy it. John Cadbury marketed to that segment of his
