are attracted to firms with a good reputation; this has lead many firms to espouse values that will enhance their reputation and as a result support or increase sales. In
some cases the firms will follow through on the values, in other instances there will be a more hypocritical approach. Coca cola is one of the more controversial firms.
The values that are declared by Coca-cola balance the needs of different stakeholders, the vision talks of maximising the return of shareholders, making the company a great
place to work, building mutual loyalty with trading partners and being a responsible global citizen (Coca-Cola, 2009). These are put forward as goals which will allow the firm to achieve
its mission; "To refresh the world - in mind, body and spirit; To inspire moments of optimism - through our brands and actions, and to create value and make
a difference - everywhere we engage" (Coca-Cola, 2009). Values are only real values if they are acted upon in sincerity, there are many good actions. Internal
stakeholders are some of the primary stakeholders and Coca-colas record is mixed. The employees are given a relatively comprehensive remuneration package; the total rewards package includes a number of elements
which are above normal minimum, including life insurance and a healthcare scheme which is paid for by the employee, but there is a benefit as the payments are taken before
tax. However, the firm does not have a clear record, in 2000 the firm faced a class action suit for racial discrimination, the case was started
by four plaintiffs and became a class action, the result was an out of court settlement which was the largest ever settlement for a racial discrimination case, with more than
