transitions by helping individuals make the best choices possible (Hudson, 1999). Case Example "John" is a AJROTC Instructor who was placed on probationary status as a
result of a number of issues. First, John was reprimanded for his unkempt appearance, interacting with cadets in the AJROTC program while demonstrating poor hygiene, a lack of attention to
his uniform, and a generally poor appearance. Complaints were also filed against John as a result of problematic interactions with cadets, including unprofessional behaviors, the use of derogatory language,
and a lack of attention to details necessary to create effective programming for the cadets. Finally, John was also reprimanded for budgetary discrepancies, including a lack of documentation for
expenditures and an inability to account for funds that were spent. As a result of these issues, John sought the support of a counselor to determine the
best approaches to improving his job performance in light of the fact that change was required as a part of disciplinary action. In relation to the complaints introduced, Johns
supervisor introduced progressive discipline, a defined set of steps that were introduced with expected performance levels to ensure changes in behaviors. The underlying principle is that specific behavioral changes
could be achieved through the providing of direction for change and a progression of goals. Individuals like John are able to apply the specific goals and objectives to their
job performance, allowing them to satisfy job expectations while also becoming an effective member of the workplace team and demonstrating responsiveness to directions from supervisors (Human Resources, 2010). Generally
